Big News

Guess what? We have been SO incredibly excited about these news for quite a while.
Let me first say that this step in our lives was frightening. It was downright paralyzingly. It has been the biggest decision of our lives and I couldn't be happier about it.
IT IS THRILLING. I am so pumped about turning a house into a home. Our home.
Yup. We bought a house.
A kinda big one too (to us anyway). With a decent back yard and a dining room! Do you know how excited I am about a proper dining room? Lots of excitement. Lots.
But the thing is, this house has some perfect things and others ummm not so perfect. So we are renovating those things. The DIY way.
....and renovating things is hard work. Very laborious work. And also dirty.
But you know what? With the help of our beautiful family, the calluses on our palms and our determination and tears, we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Aaand it will be glorious!!! Like angels singing and stars aligning sorta thing.
Mostly I am really really grateful that we are able to do this. 10 years ago I never would have thought this is where we would be.
I kinda love that.
I wonder where we will be in 10 years?I hope somewhere as exciting.
Meanwhile, life has been hit with the biggest pause button I could find. My shop is on pause. This blog. My beauty regimen is on pause too. I'm sorry world, but you can see my beautiful face and lovely new do in about a month.
Nothing is stopping me from working all summer to make this house livable even if I have to visit my chiropractor for the next two months. I've never had a house before so let me enjoy this as much as I can ok? Okay!
I am sorry for not posting any updates more often. My PC after so many years is on the fritz and life with iPhone has taken over (damn you Apple!!!) We literally have no energy come the end of the day and it's hard because I cannot wait to have some sort of routine going on again. Although I have to say routine is sorta boring....'til next time!!!
Oh, and one more thing, you can find more pics of our 'reno' on Instagram under #wittyhomereno!!! Check it out mkay?

Throwback Thursday - Look Alikes

tiny post, guys! just wanted to show off some throwback photos right quick. i actually found this one while trying to organize my photos (they're a mess), and I caught a slight similarity between my little one and myself way back when...(not to mention the similarity between me and dad).
can you see it?
the head!
oh my gosh it's freaky right? and i'd say the chin too. remember I posted a while back about this little girl being the spittin' image of her daddy? well, she definitely has my block head and add her daddy's features and voila! you've got Elena. i love that. a perfectly combined little girl.
one night, i dressed her in a yellow sleeper, for no apparent reason other than it was below 80's and she hardly wore sleepers...
and once i laid her down in her bassinet, i thought, 'holy cow. i've seen this somewhere!'
oh. yeah. here it is.
aren't throwbacks fun???
I still think she is still her father's mini me, but it's fun to want to find out which features your kids have inherited. and then immediately feel sorry after because you only want the best for them and then they inherit your crooked smile. thank you, universe.
this weekend we have great plans and I cannot wait to get them started!
have a great Thursday!

Awanas 2014

Well, another year of Awana gone...this time I didn't volunteer all year like I did last year. Why? Because I was exhaustively pregnant and also because I can't handle 17 four-year olds for an hour and half. It is energy draining on an already energy-drained prego lady, let me tell ya.
But the boys did well throughout the year with all the activities they provide. It was a good year for Andrew. It was his first year in Sparks which meant game time! They do 30 minutes of Awana games which is sort of a chaotic event but at least it wears the kids out before bedtime. This made him feel a little more grown up, independent, and responsible (even though he's not wearing his vest here).

Awanas provide different activities throughout the year. One of them being a Derby night and Drive-in night. They watched Veggie Tales and were served Capri-suns + popcorn in their little homemade cars. I wish I would have taken progress photos of his racing car because I created it in less than a day with a lot of headaches...hey, for being my first cardboard car I'd say it was pretty sweet!
Check out those droopy flames on top :) yay mom! And no, he did not win first place. You shoulda seen some of those contraptions though! There are so mighty talented and devoted parents out there...
Andrew also had Pie Night where he could earn points and get a cool whip pie in exchange...he was SO excited about that clown!
I'm gonna get you clown!
Poor baby boy, the wind was so gusty that day and that cool whip pie didn't stand a chance with his wimpy arm...nonetheless, the boy had a blast!
One of the things I most enjoyed about this year was that my kid actually memorized verses! His first one he ever memorized will forever be engraved in my heart and maybe even become a tattoo too. Because let's be honest, I need this:
He memorized the whole thing...which is amazing because this kid can't remember jack! He almost managed to memorize John 3:16 which was awesome too. We are so proud of this guy...
During his ceremony, he was pretty upset that he was the last chair in his class. He wanted to sit by his buddies but since he has a W for a last name, that means he will almost always go last.
This is where we tell him to get used to it, bud. We can't change the system, kid. Is it unfair? Oh yes.
And Jonah? He had his own ceremony too. This guy was so excited to be in Cubbies. He would wear his vest so proudly, always making sure his patches were visible. Awana also became part of our 'school' this year where every week we would read the story together and say our verse. He learned several truths like God is the Creator, God is truth, and so forth. I loved the way he would remember each one every week.
This kid is all, yell + scream and thumbs-up + spirit!
He was so excited about getting his picture with Cubbie. All the Cubbers wait patiently for Cubbie, duh. And this is also his teacher, Rebecca.
Are your kids in a church program like Awana? Find out if a nearby church has program on their locator here. It is a great resources for kids to learn God's word and have a fun and safe time with other kids!
Have a great week you guys!

How to Cut Boys Hair....the sneaky way

You know what summer means? Haircuts! And for two lucky boys, that's just what happened one Sunday evening.
The boys 'winter' hair had gotten sooo unmanageable and although everyone said they loved their hair, it was just time. So without warning, without mentioning the word 'haircut', I told them I needed a few pictures of them together. And they {sorta} complied.
Gary whisked Jonah upstairs first and began buzzing. I heard minimal shrieking while I occupied Andrew downstairs. I completely put my trust in my husband to handle the situation and then quickly changed my mind when I saw poor Jojo's face in the mirror after what Daddy had done to him!
I think the only one happy about this was Daddy... I was still trying to believe if my husband had just done what he just did. But you know what? Hair grows.
After Jonah's butchering, I quickly called Andrew up without telling him what was about to happen...
You might be asking why we decided to do this to them the way we did....well.... because we have had our fair share of tantrums with the boys about haircuts.
They absolutely hate the hair that falls on their little body and capes are just futile.
But I grabbed the scissors (not the clippers) and began working on Andrew's hair...I had hopes of styles like the ones on my Pinterest board, but seriously my boy just has a weird set of locks on his head. just like his mama.
There was SO. MUCH. HAIR.
Luckily the shock only lasted a little while. They were good sports because they got to take a bath in the middle of the day. Not to mention, they got to do this to their daddy...
Now, they can't wait to 'shave off' Daddy's beard again. Ha!
Have a great day guys!
