This is as Spring-y as I get...

This has been Andrew ALL week long! He's lovin' that striped beanie and those shades...
He goes into his room and comes out looking like this...

and he has also discovered my shower cap

Recently, I've been going to yard sales to see what I can find, whether it be a good piece of furniture I can try to re-finish or baby clothes for Tyler or fabric scraps for crafty projects...but on this Saturday, I didn't find anything except things for Andrew. Pretty good deals on them too!!!

he's so in love with his (our) new Radio Flyer trike...which will allow me to go walking now for realzzzz!

his new (to him) golf clubs that he still doesn't know how the heck he's supposed to hold them

I would pretend I know how to play golf, but my husband would just correct me so I'll spare myself...

eating some yummy apples, his new favorite fruit.

...and now, the homemaker part of the blog:

this week I guess I had a craving for pickles and found myself missing fried pickles (even though I NEVER order pickles, just the jalapeños) from Montana's...SOO I called my brother, Carl, and asked him how Montana's fixed them - yes, he used to work there...and wouldn't you know it? They came out just the same as Montana's only this batch cost $1.50 to make plus labor - which was fun!
Andrew would just dip the pickle in ranch, lick the ranch completely off, then put the pickle back onto the plate. I guess he doesn't like pickles.

check out the grease! grossed me out - almost.

some better lookin' sopes this time. man, they were good!

...decorator / craft corner!!!

so these are were our light fixtures throughout the duplex...

...and now they're this! They look SO much better and nicer.

my only Easter decoration for the duplex...
a spray painted Nescafe jar with malted chocolate easter eggs and some ribbon...there!

since I've been following all these crafty blogs, these women amaze me at how professional all their stuff looks!!! I came upon this and decided that it would be a great Easter shirt for Andrew...because we all know that if we ever did put a real tie or bow on him, it'd never last...
it's better if it's stuck on the shirt.
so here's my version:

...kinda crooked tie but hey, it's my first one...all I need to do is make my little boy some awesome Slim-Slacks from men's pants.

...and it continues from previous post

Sooooooo.......like 1 hour after my previous post, while I was frying some 'sopes', I didn't hear that munchkin doing much.

While I was cleaning up, he comes over to me in the kitchen and hands me this:

I'm like "what the heck is this!?!"

...then it dawned on me....

So I went to investigate where my purse was and found these:

YEP. 5 sticks of gum but still has the decency to let me have his chewed up gum instead of swallowing it - WHAT A GOOD BOY!!!

And yeah, I did put my purse up. Thanks.

Andrew's new discovery....from Mommy's purse

5 minutes after that video, NO gum...so what did he do? Go back to my purse. Yeah, he didn't get a chance to chew anymore.
I always remember what my parents used to tell me when I was a kid, "Se te van a pegar las tripas!" which is translated to "Your insides will get stuck together." Silly, but memorable.

Grill + Cold Weather + Haircut = Spring Break!

Our Spring Break was last week. I had totally forgotten to plan for this vacation so we just visited family.
My mom had asked us a while back about building an outdoor grill from brick and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to do it. Needless to say, the weather did not cooperate and 5 out of the 7 days were really crappy, so it's a good thing that we weren't at the beach... *keep tellin' yourself that, Lynet*

This is the day we were packing up to go visit family. My shoes were in the kitchen and guess who got into them?
...this little boy did...
...he loves to walk around in my shoes!!!
We headed to Star and visited Nana & Papa while Papa had a couple of days off.
We had a sun-shiny good day at their place.
in the front yard
cruisin' and falling off the walkway

his feet don't quite reach the pedals yet...one day, one day!

Next, we headed to Moomie & Grandpa's place where Andrew L-O-V-E-S to play with Dawna and James Ross' toys...

outdoors with the Cockrell boys next door
Andrew was fascinated to no end with riding around in these battery-less jeeps

having the time of his life!!!
Mommy pushing the jeep with no battery!
Note his sippy cup in the "engine" lol
Dawna and James ride around in the lawn mower hauling the jeep behind...
oh my goodness it's fun!

back at home, after his haircut
that silly grin...he's posing for me now!
Gary absolutely thinks he looks so much better...
me, not so much. his face looks more grown up and I have a problem with that.
he's no longer my little baby Andrew - stop time! stop! - is what I feel like screaming from the top of my lungs
I don't want my baby to grow up. Call me selfish but I like him the way he was and not what he's to become.
These are the grill pictures. We aren't finished with the project yet. There is still a couple of things that need to be finished so that the grill is usable and we can start cooking our carnes asadas con cebollita while drinking a Corona and lounging in the pool afterwards...but hey, it's a start. We blame it all on the bad weather and Lynet's inability to remember to pick up the fire-brick needed from Abilene before heading to Dublin. =)
making a concrete slab to place our grill on
my sister Caren came in and helped
my ever-helpful, handsome, concrete & mortar mixer of a husband who we could not have done this project without him - thank you Bobo!

mi madre de albañil

everybody watch Martha...

our first course...

somewhat second course
our fourth course
and done!!! well, not quite.
It sure was brutal working those days when it was cold, windy and bitter!
and to say goodbye and goodnight....

Abilene Family Magazine

Ok, so unbeknown to me, Andrew appeared in Abilene's magazine today! They do a monthly family magazine, and the lady that helps with it, runs a forum for moms. They requested pictures of kiddos in the snow when we had those couple of snow storms here. I submitted one and voila; Andrew's a star.

If you ask me, he's the cutest one on the page...

Without further adieu, here's my submitted photo... which I think I've posted here already...hehe.

...just another thing to add to his baby book!

a more crafty and goofier post...

It's been a while since I posted some pictures of my goofy, beautiful baby boy....not really, like 2 weeks...but still. Who can resist this goober who poses so sexily on our hideous yellow chairs?!

At the mall with no quarters and a camera phone....

...I can see his face changing right in front of me!!!

mommy's headband and daddy's hunting glove

when daddy leaves his vis-a-vis markers, Andrew goes wild...

...and then he BEGS mommy to put this rubber band in his hair.

one of the few days we went out this week

andrew has suddenly grown fond of taking pictures and taking lessons from his mommy...

 such an innocent look

noooo he's not really taking a poop! he has just discovered this wonderful invention we call GUM and it's located in mommy's purse...he did good the first time, he handed it to me before he swallowed it. the second time, well we can't get lucky EVERY TIME, can we?

a new discovery!!! Mommy's drawer full of cool kitchen gadgets!

big boy, eating pancakes and wiping clean his mess

On Andrew news, we've been trying to potty train and it's been alright. Not too much pressure on learning at this point, just getting him used to it. He seems to like it sometimes, NOT all the time.
Also, I've been playing the "My baby can read" video and he seemed into it the 1st week, not so much anymore. I don't understand really how bib and hippopotamus go together within 10 seconds of each other.
I catch myself singing the Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes song throughout the day...

Baby Tyler news: I've been doing good so far and been feeling super great! Aside from my ever-growing belly, I haven't had any problems, except for the pubic bone pain from Andrew's delivery and I've been going to the chiropractor for some relief, although I haven't seen improvements.
Also, bought a prenatal pilates dvd, it's really simple and not sure how on earth, once a day, this will prep with 26 hours of labor. Ugh.

She kicks and moves only around the afternoons, hasn't given me any nausea, hasn't made me gain hardly any weight...and I just absolutely LOVE her! I made her a baby book...something different than Andrew's.

Each week is written out on a page. It has 40 pages...so even after her birth, I can continue to add things to her "baby book." I got the idea from American Baby Magazine and fell in love with it...
Pictures, quirky comments, goofy things she might do...I know that Andrew's baby book is so stinkin' cute, but it has limited space for information on there, I literally have written on sides, tops and bottoms...
This way, I can write whatever I want, whenever I want and just keep adding to it!

I got a Boppy!!! I'm so happy with it because I know it'll make it easier on me...
All I need now is to convince Gary to let me get that glider from Craigslist...and I'm set for her!
I decided, thanks to my beautiful midwife and aunt, that her colors are going to be purple and grey...
yeah...good luck finding those colors! Whatcha think?

creative news:

Got this at a thrift store...such a cool little piece!
Since I've been in a sewing mood, I made it a cute strap so that we can use it as his new diaper bag...I also put velcro on it so that flap won't open and spill its contents. Yay me!

This has really started me looking through Craigslist to see who has a sewing machine I can buy since I've been using my momma's :(

...also made this super easy valance for the 80's glass-blocks window in Andrew's room...
I have a feeling that it's too simple, so I'll maybe put some car or airplane buttons on the bottom? Not sure yet, depends what's on sale!

This is me again, in the sewing mood. I sewed the bottom part of these curtains...I've decided red will be the focal color of our living room from some red pillows I've loved for a long time (see 1st pic)...
Also the curtain rod is a DYI craft too...
1 1/4 inch wooden dowel from Lowe's, wooden end pieces, and wooden wall hangers, some brown stain and voila! There's my sturdy-as-heck-$20-curtain-rod...Way cheaper than those metal ones that go for $80.
Again, they're too plain. I need to see how I can DYI hold-backs to put on the wall. Maybe also stencil a red pattern on the tan so that it's not too plain?

OoOhHhHh soooo many projects! I love it!
I've been wasting SoOo much time on crafty blogs, I don't know where to begin!!!

Some projects I want to do in the future include:
  • re-upholstering our hideous yellow barrel chairs (again, see 1st pic)
  • re-cover the baby carrier with a sewing pattern I found online
  • make some custom wall art for living room and Andrew's room
  • find a sturdy and better entertainment center, and paint it, you guessed it - RED!
  • paint and decorate 4 golden chargers that I need to put up in my kitchen!

and the list just keeps going folks!
poor Gary, every time I tell him one of my ideas, he just "sighs" with excitement...bless him!
We also replaced the light fixtures in the living room and they are FA-BU-LOUS!
You know...anything to keep my creativity flowing!

...and this is what I found this morning before heading out to eat lunch with Gary!
Delightful Daffodils...they're tiny, but oh so pretty!
