eateries

We recently went to Six Flags Over Texas before the year ended to use up some complimentary tickets we had. We've been to it so many times, we rode everything once and then got the h-e-double-hockey-sticks outta dodge...It was December and it was starting to get chilly.
When we lived closer to the area, we liked going out every Friday night to Downtown Ft. Worth. And mind you, this was before kids, so we were free as birds. Now, we do not have that luxury and we live farther than we care to drive for just a date.
So as soon as we got our happy little selves in the car, we knew where we wanted to go--Mi Cocina. They have super awesome delicious Mexican food, AND they don't hire white people to serve you. HA!
Unfortunately, I didn't take my camera because I didn't feel like carrying a huge cam, but we always have our iPad handy. Because of it's crappy camera, (less than 1Mb, for all you nerdy peeps), that's a really bad quality picture. You remember those first cell phones with cameras? Yeah, like that. You would expect Apple to always have the best quality products out there but they failed miserably with this.
Anyways, off my soapbox, I NEVER ever want to be that couple that just sit across from each other with nothing to say, nothing to talk about...kinda like on Date Night with Steve Carrell & Tina Fey, anybody?
Tina Fey with her mouth piece at bedtime, yeah, totally me. If you've seen the movie, you know how disastrous their date night goes the first time around....
So I always try to be the "fun couple" that are you know are-still-in-love-with-each-other and having fun--for people's sake of observation. I just can't stand to be thought of as 'boring'. GOD FORBID.
We had delicious salsa, tacos al carbon, and Gary's favorite: beef fajitas 'cause chicken is just wrong.
Several weeks after, I managed to end up in the Metroplex once again. This time to attend a high school friend's first solo art exhibition. His name is Leighton and he has truly come a long, inspiring way.
You can see his artwork on his website here
My sister and I had art class together with Leighton in high school--I even used him as a model in one of my drawings!
Quite a good turn out, so I'm proud of his first show!!!
After this, we argued of where we would eat. It seemed that we had no choice because the boys had decided we were eating at Torchy's.
Never eaten there, so I'm happy we went--a new experience never hurt anyone *wink, wink*
(My images are Straight Out of Camera because I simply have NO time whatsoever to edit--sorry)
The one thing I was not impressed with was their queso, I guess my taste buds are messed up because everybody was raving about it...but their tacos and salsa were pretty delish.
 My sister, the beautiful.
 ...and her beau
Impressive lighting!
We were just having a good time...
My brother, Carl <3
Love their logo!

Also, we love getting tacos for 'Los 3 Potrillos' taco truck here in town. Right around the corner from our house, it's cheap, and MEXICAN-GOOD, what else do we need?? Oh yeah, some cheve!
I promise to take pics of an "orden" of asada tacos and post on here.

Impromptu, Superman

This morning I was requested a Superman cape. Batman's cape just wouldn't do.
He even told me to get my sewing machine out! I was like, excuse me? Am I to be his seamstress at every beckoning call? Apparently so...
Nothing a little elastic and some red stretchy fabric wouldn't do.
He loved it so much he took his clothes off and ran around "flying" in his tight spandex undies like awesome superheroes do. He's still wearing it now.
He was so proud of his new Superman cape, he was even posing for me.
But this little cutie below just sat and smiled for me, sans cape.
Then Andrew wanted to take pictures. So I let him.
This is what came out. And its only about 1/3 of the total photos.
p.s., Just for the record, I am in love with my hideous, yellow, barrel chairs. No, I will not get rid of them, Mom. The kids love them as much as I do. They will be the laughing stock when my kids are older and look back on the pics though--I can already hear them now,
"oh my god mom, those chairs are horrible! why did you keep them?!?"
"remember those awful yellow chairs we had, mom!?"
BOOM.

making it a habit...

I set up the tripod this morning, and this is what came out.
I've decided that we need to take more photographs together.
I love looking through pictures of my mom and seeing how beautiful she was with her Farrah Fawcet hair or a barret in it, smiling down on my little brother all bundled up in her arms while my sis and I played with our dresses and made goofy grins.
I love seeing how we were as a family over 20 years ago.
I want my boys to see that too.
I want them to know where we lived, what we did, why we were dressed the way we were dressed, the facial expressions that we made and what was happening around us.
I want them to remember those photographs even though their memory might be as faulty as mine.
I want them to know that their mom was crazy about her hair as my mother was {not nearly} as crazy about hers.
I want them to know that I was beautiful once, even though 20, 30, 50 years from now I'll be a hideously, wrinkly disabled thing.
I want to show them I had minimal wrinkles and felt the need to feel pretty just as much as the next girl.
I can't wait until they tell me I'm the only pretty girl they know.

Getting the hang of things...

This new year feels just like the last one. Except when I see Andrew and think about how much he's developed, I wonder if this year will feel the same or if we'll all feel a little more grown-up.
Andrew is getting taller & bigger. His vocabulary has increased tremendously since last summer, and so has his smart-aleck-ness {if that's a word}. There's not a day that boy doesn't crack me up with his
humor and goofiness. To think that last summer we could hardly understand him.
Lately though, it's all about the superheroes: Batman. Superman. Spiderman.
He jumps off things, he "flies", he makes capes out of towels, and swishes out spiderwebs like it's nobody's business.
He is such a boy. He has so much energy, he sometimes refuses his naps.
I've been letting him do "big boy" things like helping me put the milk in the fridge, letting him choose between his Converse or boots, and put sugar in the tea.
He's been on a "I wanna he{l}p" rampage that you can't do anything BUT let him 'help'.
He has also taken a fascination with sleeping with Woody and Bullseye.
He's Superman in the above photo.
At the park, in a swing, is about the only time I can catch him smiling.
This was his morning hobby. He wants to take pictures with the tripod. He loves it.
Below is what he caught with the cam.
Window panes, screens, and blinds, trees, cars and a finger on the lens is all he managed to capture this morning.

Our Christmas{es}

Two Christmases, the Gaylord Hotel in Grapevine, TX, bowling, never-ending beautiful presents, and some go-karts made this holidays one of the best!
But I took about 1 million photos and therefor, uploaded my pics to my Facebook albums. Otherwise, you'd be scrolling for forever on this blog ;)
They are made public for all to see, but only for a few months--I really hate having public photos :(
