she keeps us on our toes

a recent mishap that is every parents worst nightmare made me realize this was not the first or last heart attack i will have with this little girl.
she's what we call a 'tremenda' in mexico. i.e. wild; borderline crazy; a terror.
she has accomplished so much this year alone, that i wanted to sorta blog about her for a good while. so be ready for a quick Elena photo dump & prepare your 'awwws'
this year, Elena has learned how to walk up + down the stairs--with no support. like a boss.
she is very cautious but when she learns how to do something, she does it like a pro. remember when she learned to climb up the trampoline
she knows how to get into her carseat when i tell her 'let's go!' or get up on the bench in our dining room to eat food.
another thing she has learned to do is not wear diapers. even though we cloth diapered for most of the time, i was fed up. both boys were potty trained before 2, and while we still have our good days + bad days, she is still learning how to communicate those needs.
this little girl gets into everything. the boys were destroyers. they would jack up crap every.where.
but her? she'll climb into my cabinets and dislocate everything. she'll find the only marker in the house & scribble on my walls & herself.
she'll sneak the mini-marshmallows & drink daddy's dr. pepper. she will find all the coins or gum pieces in my purse & make them disappear. she's a magician and a clown.
her abilities to keep up with her brothers are amazing. it took her just a little while to learn how to operate her tricycle. even when the merry go round in the playground is going full speed, she'll want to join. and don't even start jumping without her on the trampoline...she'll just hop on.
and more often than not, she'll get her way. how can we ever resist such a cute little face?
when we go out, all the little old ladies go nuts over her. and the little girls too. they think of her as a doll and won't let her breathe. she's the cutest little girl on the planet to me, and others think so too.
she's blessed with a nana & a moomie as she is the only granddaughter they have. smooches + besos + sugars are never in short supply.
this little girl is my everything. i am so stupid blessed to have her and i wouldn't want life any other way.
she loves to be outside. to dig in the dirt. to play in the water. to haul her blankie everywhere. she loves candy even more.
but she loves her daddy the most. he is the first thing she blurts out in the morning. i love it. my heart cannot stand it. he carries her around everywhere and in exchange, he receives the most scrumptious kisses + loveable hugs.
this little girl is our world. she will test us. make us smile. impress us. completely drive us nuts. but we love her to 'the death'.
we are super lucky to have her in our little family.
i hope you enjoyed some of the silliness we are so privileged to have in our lives. have a beautiful week with loved ones & family as we celebrate the birth of our savior in a couple of days!

a little jumping bean

good morning everyone! wanted to share some sweet moments i caught of elena as she discovers new things on her own - namely, how to get on the trampoline (and off, for that matter) all on her own.
i love watching all of my kids learning how to jump on the trampoline. the cutest! not to mention it is pure joy for them too. definitely a favorite!
our days have been cooling off and it is so beautiful to spend an afternoon outside.
the way she just plops down is just hilarious. such a tiny little body just moving, hopping, jumping, falling. seriously, my heart cannot resist the love.
i'll leave you with a video I made...hopefully you'll enjoy it :)

have a fantastic weekend everyone!

long trip fun stay

My mom, sis and brothers live about 5 hours away from us...while it's hard, it makes our visits much sweeter and meaningful. But you know what? Moomie doesn't care, she puts you to work! After all, there's a lot of work to be done on the farm.
Mom's got a freezer packed full of vegetables either grown from her garden or donated from other kind people...
and you know what vegetable we got to eat at dinner that night {and the night after, and the night after that}?? you got it! corn. But we eat it the Mexican way. Corn with butter, cream or mayo, some salt, and chili powder which is the best part! elote con chile, crema y mantequilla! freakin' delicious, especially in a vasito.
The boys beg to be let outside just like the dogs do--every. day. Their love for the trampoline is unreal.

and that afternoon, the sun just happened to be in the perfect spot to take some sweet pictures of my nephew, Leo. I will post those separately but here are a couple of teasers ;)
the pool was also fun, we layed out and soaked some sun {it was bloody hot} and then cooled down with water and the shade of the massive oak tree in the front yard.
there is never a shortage of animals on Moomie's farm: cats and rats and horses and cows and ducks and chickens and snakes....oh, and dogs. oh and fishes too {inside the fish tank of course!}
this baby got passed around like a ragdoll, many volunteers with open arms and soft touches. he consumed a million ounces while we were there and slept about 400 hours too. the sweetest grunter in the whole world you ever did hear...no crying. just grunt. grunt. GRUNT!
and one afternoon, everyone just. crashed. hardcore. except for me and Andrew {it's weird that I wasn't involved, this pregnancy is completely ignoring my no-nap rule}. the house was so quiet for 2 hours.
some little kid wanted so badly to roast marshmallows. Moomie totally caved and made his wish come true...well, sorta. She got the marshmallows but Tio Carlos and Tio James totally helped with the fire. The most awesome part, duh.
I forced the kids to take a photo with their cousin Leo before we left. Jonah is still confused about why baby Leo is out in the world after he had just gotten used to the idea that he was inside my sister's belly. Andrew was never keen on Jonah as a baby, he hardly ever came near him. So it only made sense that no way in hell was he gonna touch Leo--hence the pillow he rests on and Andrew's lovely face. Jonah was just curious and sweet. I love the way he says baby Leo. We still love you Leo and can't wait for you to play with your cousins!
sorry that i've been taking a small hiatus from blogging because i've been busy DIY'ing outside in this decent weather. some sprinkles, lots of clouds, some sun, and cooler nights! bring on the low 70's now!!!
can't wait to post those projects here soon!
